Business Gas and Electricity - Beware of Energy Contract Pitfalls
By Jane Plevey
There are many pitfalls that businesses can become victim of when they try to switch their business gas or business electricity supplier.
Many businesses do not realise that when their business energy contract is due for renewal, if they do not act at the right time, the energy supplier will automatically roll them over onto a new contract, often at less than competitive rates. When this happens, businesses lose the chance to shop around for better energy deals and are stuck with their current business gas and electricity suppliers until the new contract expires.
If a business does shop around and sign an energy contract with another gas or electricity supplier after they have rolled over, they are in breach of contract with the new energy supplier who can take legal action.
Dealing with energy suppliers and contracts can be confusing and frustrating for businesses. In response to this, we have developed a series of tools to help companies through the maze of getting competitive business energy rates.
Our online business energy comparison site gives businesses access to competitive energy rates 24 hours-a-day and we work closely with both the business and the energy companies to make switching as smooth as possible.
For those that are not yet coming to the end of their energy contract, we also have the free TotalCare energy contract renewal service. Business signing up for this service will receive free reminders in the run up to the end of their business energy contracts, leaving them the time to shop for better deals. We also give advice on giving notice to your current energy supplier so that you do not roll over onto another contract.
