A teenager shot in the neck in a drive-by attack on Thursday night has left hospital as investigations continue into the attack.

The 14-year-old boy was outside shops in Forest Gate, east London, when a car, believed to be a red Citroen Saxo with blacked-out windows, drove past and shot at the boy and his friends at 23:30 BST on Thursday.

Police say they are continuing to keep all options open in the investigation and are calling on the local community to assist their enquiries.

The victim is black and was wearing a black jacket, grey T-shirt, khaki green trousers and black woolly hat on Thursday night.

Thursday's shooting is one in a number of recent attacks on teenagers in London. Last Friday, 14-year-old Paul Erhahon was fatally stabbed in Leytonstone, east London and 15-year-old Adam Regis was stabbed to death last month in Plaistow.

"We need the help and support of the local community to assist us to continue the removal of firearms from our streets," Metropolitan police Detective Inspector Simon Stancombe said.

"All calls to us are taken in strict confidence and we urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us with our inquiries."
