Pre-paid debit cards will become increasingly popular in the near future - as they provide holiday makers with a safe and easy way of keeping their costs down, one market expert has said.

Perry Wilson, director of travel insurance company InsureandGo, says that such cards offer easier options when it comes to security and budgeting - and thinks that their popularity will soon mean that credit cards, travellers cheques and cash are all left at home when holiday makers fly off abroad.

"These [Travel Cards] are great because once you've used it abroad and you're home, you can use it on the internet - it's got all your bank details on it, safe," Mr Wilson said.

"There's not just one use for it, you can use it wherever you go. So this [market for] pre-paid debit cards will grow – it's exactly the same as a pay-as-you-go phone, it's a safe way of keeping your costs down whatever you do."

He continued by saying that they would prove an effective alternative to credit cards for holiday makers - as they could stop people getting into debt on their trips abroad.
