Police have made five arrests after they uncovered a large cannabis factory in Avon.

More than 250 cannabis plants and a large amount of dried cannabis were found at the house on Graham Road in Downend.

The living room, loft and three bedrooms were all full of plants. Avon and Somerset police said that the drugs are believed to have a street value of about £250,000.

Five men aged between 28 and 30 have been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and remain in custody.

Police inspector Gus Krouwel commented: "We have taken a significant quantity of drugs off the streets as part of this investigation. This should send a strong message out to others that if you are involved in drug dealing you will be caught."

He appealed for people to come forward with information about people involved with criminal activity.

"We will always act on any intelligence received from members of the community," Inspector Krouwel added.
