Scottish & Southern Enerrgy (SSE) has announced that its profits rose by 24 per cent over the year.
The company also said that it plans to produce incentives aimed at rewarding customers who reduce their energy consumption levels.
It said it plans to introduce ' energy efficiency credits' - which customers will earn by investing in energy saving products such as loft insulation and by reducing their consumption of electricity and gas. These credits can then be used towards their energy bills or further energy saving measures.
Profits before tax and one-off items reached £1.08 billion in the year ending March 31st. Good performance in its power generation and gas storage units drove the results - with customer base expansion also bringing in improved revenues.
By the end of the financial year on March 31st, the company had 7.75 million customers, up by one million compared to at the same point in 2006.
