People should make sure they thoroughly check the details of their travel insurance before signing up - especially if they are considering taking part in extreme sports while on their travels, it has been claimed.
Malcolm Tarling, spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers, says that most policies don't cover activities such as white water rafting, so people should consider what they kind of activities they are likely to be taking part in on future holidays when selecting their insurance provider.
"If you're thinking of getting involved in some of the dangerous sports, which many people will do when they go on holiday, the first thing you need to do is to check your policy before you actually sign on the dotted line," he commented.
"If you're planning to go white-water rafting down the Colorado River or something, your bog-standard travel policy won't cover you."
He went on to add that that it's not normally possible to amend your policy once you have left the UK - meaning that you "need to think very carefully
what it is you're going to be involved in when you're travelling".
