The UK's internet users are the most active in Europe, a new report claims.

British internet users spend a greater amount of time online per month compared to any European counterpart countries (34.5 hours per user) and the UK has the highest number of people who use the internet every day (21.8 million), according to the study by analyst firm comScore.

The UK also topped the tables on the highest usage days per month, although we lagged behind the Netherlands and Scandinavia when it came to internet penetration.

In the UK, people between the ages of 15 and 25 were found to be driving high internet usage - with people in this age bracket spending 24 per cent more time online than the average Brit and 25 per cent more likely to be online than the usual British internet user.

"The higher use of the internet among those aged 15 to 24 reflects the fact that this age group has grown up online, demonstrating how integral the internet is to their lives," Bob Ivins, managing director of comScore Europe, commented.
