Infinis has announced that it expects to double the amount of electricity it produces by diversifying into wind farms and biomass plants.
The energy company, which is owned by private equity group Terra Firma, currently creates energy from methane gas - which it captures from underground waste at landfill sites.
It currently produces electricity for around 180,000 homes throughout the UK, getting its supplies from a total of 80 landfill sites nationwide.
Chief executive Alan Lovell says that the company is looking at expanding into biomass and wind power production at these sites - adding that it might also consider making acquisitions, particularly in wind power.
"There is a huge opportunity from biomass and we are coming across much more available feedstock than we had expected," he told the Reuters news agency.
Although Infinis does not own the sites from which it creates its power, it is able to develop biomass and wind power plants on them without acquiring the land - as part of the deal secured by Terra Firma when it acquired the energy company.
