Insurers are more likely to take into account your parking habits than your postcode when trying to determine your car insurance premiums, an expert claims.
Liz Kennett, a spokesperson from breakdown service the RAC, says that your postcode does have some bearing on how much you pay for motor insurance - but adds that having a secure garage or overnight parking spot is more likely to knock money off your premium than a change of neighbourhood.
"Car insurance firms will look at where your car is parked over night," Ms Kennett said.
"If your car is parked in the garage then you will pay less than someone whose car is parked on the street. You're less likely to get your car stolen and it's less likely to be damaged.
"They do look at where your car is parked over night and obviously that will be impacted by your post code, because some post codes will be worse for theft than others," she continued.
Miss Kernett also said that car theft now usually only occurs when thieves get their hands on car keys - as "sophisticated alarms and immobilisers" make vehicles very difficult to steal.
