The UK's leading energy supplier Centrica has announced that natural gas production at its South Morecambe field is due to restart today.

Production had previously been halted for ten days as maintenance work took place at the site. A spokesperson for the company, which has its headquarters in Windsor near London, told the Bloomberg news agency that the South Morecambe field is "still scheduled to return today".

Gas flow data from the National Grid revealed that the rate of gas flows at the terminal from which South Morecambe gas is pumped onto the grid has remained unchanged from August 17th at 4.5 million cubic metres per day, the news agency said.

In related news, a report from Business Weekly claims that Centrica is looking to double generation at its plant in King's Lynn within the next five years.

The company recently announced that it was looking to build a new gas-fired station on the one of its existing sites - and Business Weekly states that the King's Lynn plant is the one it has targeted to carry out its plans.
