Fans of a hit BBC TV show which ended several years ago are protesting against proposed plans to build power lines across a stretch of Scottish countryside - as they feel it will ruin the site of their beloved television programme.
Protestors from as far a field as Australia and the US are showing their dismay at Scottish & Southern Energy's decision to increase the size of pylons on the land near Loch Laggan in Scotland, which was the site of BBC drama Monarch of the Glen.
Fans of the show have joined forces with local action group Cairngorms Revolt Against Pylons (CRAP) to object against the proposals. Rhoderick Noble, manager of the Arverikie Estate which was the real-life setting for the show's fictional Glenbogle location, told the Observer newspaper that he was "delighted" with the scale of support for the campaign.
A spokeswoman for Scottish & Southern countered that the new pylons were simply an action to meet increasing demand in the area
"There are people constantly wanting to connect to our energy transmission network," she commented.
"There are those who are looking at alternatives like wind power, but most members of the public and companies want to connect to our system. If it's not upgraded, there won't be enough capacity to take on these new customers."
