Garden furniture left outside often presents an easy target for malingering thieves, one insurance expert has claimed.
John Potter, director of the Saga insurance group, claims that people often underestimate the value of their garden contents and fail to consider the cost of replacing cherished garden furniture and ornaments.
"For many people it is not an option to put their garden furniture away on a daily basis, which of course makes it a target for opportunistic thieves," Mr Potter commented.
"It is important for people to check to ensure their cover truly reflects the value of their set," he added, before highlighting how easy it is to underestimate the cost of bringing a garden back up to scratch after a burglary.
"One thing that is often not factored in when valuing a garden is the cost to replace the grass should it be seriously vandalised, this alone could cost hundreds so you can see how easy it would be to underestimate," Mr Potter explained.
A recent report from the Target Group revealed that over one million people in the UK spend over £150 per year on plants.
