The government is not doing enough to support businesses that are trying to become more energy efficient, according to new research.
Internet service provider Eclipse Internet's findings also reveal that roughly 85 per cent of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK are planning on implementing green policies in their workplaces in the next five years.
However, only seven per cent of businesses think that home working or flexible hours are a suitable way for them to reduce their carbon footprints.
Commenting on the results of the survey, Eclipse's broadband and ISP development director Mark Lang said: "SMEs are obviously taking going green very seriously, but cannot do this alone and want government advice on best practice.
"With the benefits of boosting productivity, reducing carbon emissions and enhancing work-life balance, smarter working practices, need to be higher in the going green list."
The call for the government to do more to promote energy efficiency has come a week after the Liberal Democrats announced plans at last week's party conference to make the UK carbon emission-free and non-nuclear in the next 40 years.
