Scottish Widows has launched a new service to keep customers in the know about their mortgage applications.

The bank's new text messaging service has been organised to keep both those applying for mortgages and their advisers fully updated on how their applications for the loans are progressing.

Scottish Widows will send messages to notify prospective mortgage holders at several points in the process, including when they receive their applications, when more information is required and when an offer letter has been sent to them.

The company's communications manager Amanda Docherty said: "Buying a home can be a stressful experience and customers want to be kept up-to-date on developments with their mortgage application as soon as they happen.

"Our new text messaging service will offer customers and their financial adviser an additional and convenient channel for receiving updates."

Scottish Widows is part of the Lloyds TSB Group and provides pension, investment opportunities, insurance and mortgages to customers across the UK.

The company is also an official provider of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
