Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) is expected to announce an increase in half-year profits thanks to customer increases, according to a leading newspaper.

The Scotsman has revealed that the energy supplier is expected to announce that its customer base has grown by 8.18 million in the past six months, while profits are expected to have risen by 43 per cent and hit over £650 million.

Commenting on the company's fortunes to the newspaper, Citi analyst Peter Atherton also said it was expected that the company's price cuts on a range of gas and electricity products had contributed to its growth.

If the predictions of SSE's success are true, the findings would round off a good start to November for the electricity provider.

The company was recently named the best customer service provider out of all of the major energy suppliers in three major surveys in the area.

JD Power and Associates, energywatch and uSwitch.com have all rated the business's customer service record as the best offered by an energy provider within the past few weeks.
