People need to become more aware that travel insurance is not only about protecting them when flights are cancelled, according to a leading specialist.
InsureandGo spokesperson Perry Wilson stated that individuals need to think more about the medical aspect of their cover, which is designed to protect them in the event of an accident.
He also claimed that some people may find European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) misleading as they do not provide the help that many expect.
"One of the problems we have with the European Health Insurance Card is that it says the wrong words: European Health Insurance – it's not."
"Having the word 'insurance' in it, people think the EHIC will help them, and it won't", he explained.
The spokesperson added that he thought travel insurance should be made compulsory for anyone leaving the UK.
