People in a relationship have been urged to work together when moving house or organising finances for a move.
The call has come after research by Halifax found that 48 per cent of men typically manage financial issues - including the mortgage - when moving with their partners, compared to 34 per cent of women.
It was also found that 65 per cent of couples make a joint decision when moving, while 36 per cent sort out finances together.
Gordon Edwards, the managing director of Halifax Estate Agents, said: "Buying a house is the biggest purchase most of us are likely to make.
"If you are deciding to sell your home, purchase a new property or sorting the finances for a move, it's important to involve your partner in the decision-making process."
The release of the research has come after Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, head of mortgages at Abbey, urged consumers to shop around for the best home loan, credit card and insurance deals available to them.
