E.ON has announced that it is increasing the prices of its domestic gas and electricity tariffs from today.
The energy supplier, which was formerly known as Powergen, revealed that it is raising the costs of its electricity and gas prices by 9.7 per cent and 15 per cent respectively.
It has been claimed that rising wholesale costs are the reason behind the hikes, which have made E.ON the fifth energy supplier in recent weeks to increase its tariffs.
However, the company has claimed that the increases will not affect over 550,000 customers who are currently on its Price Protection and fixed price products.
Graham Bartlett, managing director of the E.ON said: "We realise the impact this price increase will have on our customers and we're doing everything we can to minimise this.
"Our announcement has been made in response to sustained pressures from the wholesale market."
Scottish and Southern Energy is the only 'Big Six' energy supplier not to have increased its prices in recent weeks.
The supplier has stated that it is not planning to review its prices until the start of British Summer Time.
