Over 80 per cent of those who have switched energy suppliers would regard the process as easy, according to new research.

The study from BroadbandChoices.co.uk found that many feel that changing their utility tariffs is easier than switching to an alternative broadband service, with half of those who have done so stating that it was a difficult process.

Other findings revealed that a third of people are "scared" of the complexities of switching their internet provider.

Michael Phillips, the product development director at BroadbandChoices.co.uk, stated that the study suggested that the broadband industry could possibly learn from the energy sector.

He added that making migrations between internet service providers (ISPs) simpler "is a must".

Positive news on switching energy suppliers has come after research released by Ofgem in October last year found that nearly three million households changed their gas and electricity provider in the first seven months of 2007.

The study also found that those on prepayment deals could save £100 on average if they have never changed their supplier.
