Taking our travel insurance to cover accidents or illness when abroad is "always a good idea", according to the AA.

Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the company, said that there are also a number of policies available for people, suggesting most travellers should be able to find cover to suit their needs.

Those heading to foreign countries should also not forget to take out the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), he added, saying it would help travellers to get treatment in EU countries for "free or at a low cost".

However, he also warned that the standard of service available may be influenced by the country that a traveller is in.

The AA offers its own range of travel insurance products along with associated companies including Go Travel Insurance and OneStop Travel.

As well as travel insurance, the company also offers people in the UK advice and products to cover their cars, loans and other financial services.
