An expert has claimed that using energy efficient measures in the workplace is one of the most effective ways for businesses to reduce their gas and electricity costs.
However, Emily Farnsworth, the director of corporate engagement for the Climate Group, has added that many mainstream businesses are failing to pick on the opportunity to lower their energy bills by becoming greener.
In a column for ClimateChangeCorp.com, she added that even "simple" energy-saving measures can help companies to reduce their energy use.
She explained: "Measures like insulating buildings and upgrading ancient air conditioning units will save cash even if it means spending a bit in the first year or so."
Established in 2004, the Climate Group was created to encourage business and government leadership on tackling the issue of climate change.
The organisation's members, who have all stated a commitment to take steps to tackle their impact on the environment, include a number of global brands, including HSBC, Sky, BP and Virgin.
