An energy provider has announced that it has introduced a new system designed to decrease the number of power cuts suffered by customers across the country.

ScottishPower's new £32,000 remote control system, which has been installed in North Cumbernauld, Castlecary and Bonnybridge, has been created to lower the amount of time that people go without energy in the event of a cut.

Graham Campbell, the project manager for the new technology, said that the new service has already brought some benefits to its customers in the area.

"Less than a month after successful implementation of this equipment, a fault developed beyond Cannerton and as a result of the equipment installed, only 723 customers lost their power supply, where previously more than 1,740 might have", he explained.

He added that the equipment was "bringing significant benefits" to its customers across its network area.

ScottishPower also recently became the first UK energy supplier to reach government targets and reduce its customers' energy usage through a package of energy efficient measures.
