An insurance broker has stated that caravan insurance may not necessarily cover expensive items taken on holidays in them.

Safeguard Insurance, which is one of the UK's most successful independent brokers, said that as there is a wide range of cover types, the insurance may not actually stretch to protecting items such as laptops and other electricals.

The provider's Rita Sadler has encouraged people to not take the risk of presuming that their valuables are covered.

She advised: "If you've got an expensive laptop, what you should do automatically is to insure them on your home insurance on an all-risk policy, or cover that's effective while it's away."

A recent survey by the British Holiday and Homes Parks Association has shown the importance of considering cover for items taken on a caravan holiday.

The organisation's research found that around half of all people in the UK have spent a holiday in a caravan at some point in their life.
