Homeowners in the UK can save money on their energy bills by making the effort to improve the efficiency of their computer, according to an expert

Nigel Berman, the founder of Nigel's Eco Store, claimed that people could save around £50 a year by using an "ecobutton" that puts machines not in use into a standby mode which uses a low amount of energy.

The expert went on to explain that sometimes computers are left on when it doesn't need to be.

He said: "There's a high statistic of computers that are left on overnight and at weekends, because people can't be bothered to turn them off.

"It's particularly businesses, but homeowners too."

Previous figures released by Nigel's Eco Store found that UK households could save up to £400 a year on food, electricity and grocery bills by improving their green credentials.

Mr Berman has also previously stated that taking steps such as only boiling the right amount of water can help homes cut their energy bills.
