ScottishPower has revealed it has awarded a grant to a centre which takes care of birds in its local area.

The energy supplier has given £12,500 from its Green Energy Trust to the Scottish Seabird Centre, which attracts around 300,000 visitors a year who want to see the its birds and marine mammals in their natural habitat.

Solar panels are to be installed at the centre with the funding, while the facility already has a wind turbine.

Alison McKean, the environment head of ScottishPower, said the trust was "delighted" to assist the centre's plans to introduce the technology.

She added that the grant has "boosted the Centre's green credentials and provided local residents and schools with a fun and practical way to learn about solar and wind energy and ways to tackle climate change".

ScottishPower's Green Energy Trust recently celebrated its tenth anniversary and has donated over £900,000 to 91 renewable energy projects across the UK since it was formed.
