Bank customers should submit claims on unfair charges as quickly as possible, a financial services expert says.

Fool.co.uk head of personal finance David Kuo said customers could "stop the clock counting down" the time allowed to submit their appeals.

His comments follow confirmation from the British Bankers' Association (BBA) that banks will appeal against a high court ruling on unfair charges.

He said customers could reclaim unfair charges plus interest that have ocurred in the past six years and shouldn't hesitate.

He said: "But bank customers can get their own back. Submit your claims without delay so you can get your refund in full when banks run out of time and options."

Fool.co.uk is an independent personal finance site providing financial tips, community-generated guidance and product comparison.

The BBA represents the interests of the UK's banking industry and has 223 members making up the world's largest international banking centre.
