The government has unveiled a range of measures to help those struggling with fuel poverty.
Energy minister Malcolm Wicks unveiled the proposals, which would allow energy suppliers to share data on consumers and introduce a scheme which will see those applying for Warm Front grants given advice about tariffs.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is also planning to fund a rollout of an awareness campaign on providing social assistance for the vulnerable.
Discussing the measures, Mr Wicks said: "In the light of rising energy prices and the increasing global demand for energy we have to think long term and carefully and provide sustainable solutions to those most likely to need help.
"As well as measures to improve the incomes of the vulnerable, a key part of this must be energy efficiency which will help bring people's bills down in the future and keep their homes warm."
The UK's gas and electricity watchdog, energywatch, recently welcomed npower's plans to help those in fuel poverty.
