British motorists who are planning to drive in Ireland have been urged to ensure their insurance policy covers them.
Thomas Brosnan, spokesperson for AA Ireland, has stated that while drivers may be fully covered across Britain, their policy may not be as comprehensive when driving in the country.
He explained that policies may only cover them third-party for driving in foreign countries and also discussed ways that motorists can be protected for other issues.
"With regard to being stranded in remote areas – first of all, if they're members of the AA in Britain they're automatically entitled to cover here," he said.
"But it would be advisable for the motorists to take out their own breakdown cover… because if there's an accident or whatever it can be expensive."
The AA's insurance arm is Ireland's largest personalised intermediary, with around 170,000 policy holders.
It also offers people expert advice on a number of transport issues, as well as loans and other financial aid.
