An energy supplier has given funding to experts who are analysing ways to improve the efficiency of homes in the UK.
In a joint move with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, E.ON has awarded over £4 million to researchers based at the Universities of Loughborough and Reading.
Both of the higher education institutions are involved in projects with other universities designed to discover how technology and lifestyle changes could save both energy and carbon emissions.
E.ON's head of research and development, Dave Clarke, said that the company was demonstrating its "commitment to leading in low carbon energy technologies".
"These are two very important projects in our collaborative programme with universities that will help change the way we use energy in our day-to-day lives and help combat climate change," he added.
E.ON recently revealed it is now joint partners with DONG Energy on the major London Array offshore windfarm project.
The pair bought out Shell's stake in the development for an undisclosed sum.
