People can help protect themselves against Halloween scares, such as parents suing for accidental injuries to their children, by checking what their insurance policies cover, according to a finance expert.
Mike Powell, principal consultant at Defaqto, said: "At this spooky time of year, people could get a fright if parents choose to sue because their child trips up a driveway, injures themselves when playing Halloween games or suffers an allergic reaction when eating home-made treats."
He added that checking the liability cover clause in building and contents insurance would show people whether they would be covered in the event a child was hurt on their property.
Other advice from the financial research company included checking whether pet insurance comes with liability cover if a pet injures a child.
Meanwhile, figures from Tesco Home Insurance show that insurance claims on October 31st rise by 150 per cent compared with other days in October.
