Checking tyre pressure, replacing worn windscreen wipers and cleaning lights and indicators could save motorists money on their premiums, according to insurer RIAS.
According to the insurer, keeping cars in good condition could mean motorists can avoid making a claim, therefore saving money.
Managing director Janet Connor said: "Minor jobs like checking fluids, tyre pressure and condition, and replacing worn small parts like windscreen wipers, can really help prevent major issues later on.
"After all, steering clear of potential problems in the short term has to be better than making an avoidable claim, risking your no claims bonus and increasing the cost of your premium in the long term."
Other advice from the insurer includes keeping screen wash reservoirs topped up and using good-quality anti-freeze.
Meanwhile, research from LV has shown that one in four motorists has been a victim of crime, with detachable stereos, CDs and money being the most stolen items in break-ins.
