A growing number of homeowners in the UK are looking to 'go green' in their home in order to save money.
Research by Halifax has found that one in ten property owners have used either reclaimed of green materials in their home improvements and another 64 per cent said they would consider using them in the future.
The survey found that 38 per cent of respondents would become more "environmentally conscious" with their homes in order to cut costs.
Some 56 per cent of people surveyed said they would set aside around £200 for making eco-improvements to their properties.
David Rochester, head of underwriting at Halifax Home Insurance, said Brits are now becoming more "eco-conscoius".
"Items such as fireplaces, baths and tiles have traditionally been popular, but many households are now likely to consider solar panels or wind turbines," he added.
Scottish & Southern Energy recently announced it was pledging to cut fuel costs for domestic and business customers in the new year.
It said it was "optimistic" about being able to cut bills in 2009.
