9 out 10 can save money!
Only a third of Brits are examining their energy bill statements, according to new research.
A study by Fool.co.uk found that 33 per cent of people check their electricity and gas bills, however six per cent admitted to never studying their statements.
Some five per cent of people even confessed to having no clue what their utility bills mean.
David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk , said that examining statements is "the first step to saving money on utilities", adding it was necessary to confirm that meter readings "are accurate".
He added: "Comparing your bills with similar houses in your neighbourhood could identify if your home is energy efficient."
Jane Gatiss, PR manager for eaga, which manages the government's energy efficiency Warm Front scheme, recently said that fuel poverty cuts across all sectors of society and currently affected 5.4 million households in the UK.
