Fuel poverty is a rising problem in the UK which currently affects 5.4 million households, according to industry experts.
Maria Wardrobe, warm homes campaigner for National Energy Action (NEA) and Jane Gatiss, PR manager for eaga, which manages the government's energy efficiency Warm Front scheme, said fuel poverty "cuts across all sectors of society".
The pair said that a long tern sustainable solution to fuel poverty could be the issue of energy efficiency.
"The main reason is rising energy prices; the causes of fuel poverty are three fold, one is poor energy efficiency housing stock, the second one is low household income and the third one is energy prices," said the duo of experts.
Leading energy provider ScottishPower recently announced it was on course to meet half of its Carbon Emissions Reduction Target by the end of 2008.
The firm claims this will mean it has installed energy efficiency measures in over 380,000 homes across the UK.
