One of the leading energy firms in the UK is launching a new energy-efficiency campaign aimed at businesses over the Christmas period.

npower claims that businesses across the UK could save up to £28 million over the festive period, adding that companies could be wasting up to £7 million a day due to poor energy efficiency.

Its Big Switch Off campaign is encouraging businesses to cut lighting costs by switching them off in rooms not being used and aiming to help them save money on heating, adding that increasing the temperature by one degree can add eight per cent to a bill.

Also, it claims that a computer left on for 24 hours a day can cost a firm £50 a year.

Steve Fitzsimons, business relationship manager from npower, said: "Improving energy efficiency by switching off equipment is a quick and easy way to cut energy bills at a time when many businesses are looking to save whatever they can."

npower recently won the Environmental Award at the Utility Industry Achievement Awards for its Climate Cops scheme.
