The Scottish government is hoping to make schools across the country more energy efficient.

Education secretary Fiona Hyslop has announced the new renewable energy measures to help the schools cut their energy bills and reduce the amount of carbon emissions produced.

Ms Hyslop outlined a recent visit she made to Sanderson's Wynd Primary school in Tranent, which uses automatic lighting to react to daylight levels, together with a wind mill and solar panels to provide electricity for the building.

She added: "All of the measures at Sanderson will be important in helping tackle climate change and, at a time of high fuel prices, both renewable generation and energy efficiency measures will be important in helping local authorities reduce consumption, carbon emissions and energy bills."

The British Wind Energy Association recently claimed a total of 262 different wind power projects were currently stuck in planning stages across the UK, the Guardian reported.
