ScottishPower has announced it has received planning permission for its new windfarm in Northumberland.
The firm, one of the leading energy suppliers in the UK, got permission for the proposed Lynemouth windfarm following a successful planning appeal.
When completed, the site is set to be the home to 13 turbines which will be capable of producing 30 megawatts of "clean green energy", which would be enough power for over 16,000 homes.
The windfarm will be located two-kilometres north of Ashington, near to the Rio Tinto Alcan Lynemouth Smelter.
Keith Anderson, director of ScottishPower's renewable division, said the firm was "delighted" with the "findings of the planning appeal process".
He added: "We now look forward to progressing construction of the project and adding renewable energy generation to the area’s long standing industrial heritage."
ScottishPower recently launched a new fixed-price energy tariff, which would give customers a gas rate reduced by ten per cent compared to current prices until January 31st 2010.
