A Scottish MP is calling on energy providers to drop their gas and electricity prices as soon as possible, it has been reported.
Scottish National Party MP Adam Ingram has told the Ayrshire Post that it is "scandalous" that people across the country are being forced to suffer from fuel poverty "amidst energy plenty".
He added that the UK government should use its powers to force the major energy suppliers to reduce prices in line with the dropping wholesale prices, stating that people across Ayrshire are "still paying the higher rates".
Mr Inggram stated: "The government needs to stop flannelling and use that power for the benefit of hard-pressed customers, particularly the elderly, disabled and those with young families."
Jim Milne, head of the Dundee Anti-Poverty Forum, recently wrote a letter to Gordon Brown calling for the government to introduce immediate energy price restrictions, the Courier reported.
