A leading energy company is set to trial new technology which aims find a new form of generating electricity.
E.ON has revealed it is soon to begin carrying out tests in Scotland into the ability to produce power from waves.
An initial scheme will take place in Orkney based around a 750kW Pelamis P2 device, which will be installed at the European Marine Energy Centre.
The company's marine development manager, Amaan Lafayette, commented that this is an "incredibly exciting project", adding it could contribute to the use of this kind of technology not just in the UK, but around the world.
He stated: "It’s only by actually getting devices in the water that we can test the potential for wave power in the UK, which is why this is such an important step."
Earlier this month, E.ON announced it is streamlining its retail division to help create sustainable business, using voluntary redundancies where possible.
