The Liberal Democrat party has pledged to revamp the entire British housing stock in ten years.

It aims to make existing properties more energy efficient to help consumers save money on their electricity and gas bills and help to tackle the issue of climate change.

The Warm Homes strategy will put further pressure on the UK government which has already launched a green-home makeover strategy.

According to the Conservative Party, the Lib Dems are just imitating Tory policy.

The drive for green homes in the UK has accelerated following figures from Legal Marketing Services which showed no homes were given an A-rating for energy efficiency in the past year and just one per cent achieved a rating of B.

Meanwhile, the majority of homes in the UK were rated D, or below average.

Commenting on the study, Martin Ellis, chief economist at Halifax Estate Agents, said: "The overwhelming majority of homes have an average energy efficiency rating, with hardly any in the top two most efficient bands."
