A chemical manufacturer in the UK has supplemented its electricity supply by installing a wind turbine on top of its headquarters.
REpower UK's microgeneration turbines are adapted for use in urban environments and the company installed one of them on the roof of Croda Europe's Hull plant.
The two megawatt device is expected to generate more than half of the 30 megawatt hours Croda Europe's facility uses each day.
Croda Europe's turbine, an MM92, has been connected to the firm's electricity network as well as to the national grid.
Henning von Barsewisch, managing director of REpower UK, said: "It's very encouraging to see companies take the step forward to become self sufficient in terms of energy generation.
Mr von Barsewisch added that as well as cutting costs, the move could help the environment by reducing the amount of carbon dioxide pumped into the atmosphere.
In related news, Repower has won a £1.7 billion offshore wind farm contract with German firm RWE Innogy.
