A wind turbine which generates between £50,000 and £100,000 a year could help the Scottish village of Fintry become the greenest in the country, it has been claimed.
The turbine has been operating for more than 14 months and is one of 15 in a nearby windfarm, according to The Herald.
Some 330 homes in the village have eliminated their electricity bills altogether and the leftover profits are used to improve the energy efficiency of existing homes in the region.
The turbine generates 8000MWh of electricity each year, which is enough to power almost 2,000 homes and the electricity produced is sold to the National Grid, the paper states.
Gordon Cowtan, one of the people behind the turbines erection, told the news provider: "It was motivated by a mixture of idealism and pragmatism."
According to the British Wind Energy Association, an average wind turbine will pay back the energy used in its construction within six to eight months.
