The wind power sector is reportedly lobbying the Treasury for increased financial support to be included in next month's budget.

According to industry leaders, if the government does not lend its support it risks postponements and cancellations of major renewable energy projects.

The British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) is asking for extra funding, on top of the subsidies outlined in the Renewables Obligation, to combat the falling value of the pound.

Adam Bruce, chairman of the BWEA, told the Guardian: "There are schemes that are under threat unless help can be obtained."

The BWEA is purportedly ready to submit a list of demands, which will outline the detrimental effect that a lack of funding will have on the UK's renewable energy sector – including the likelihood that the UK will miss its EU target of generating 15 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020.

According to a Climate Change Programme review, the UK is set to miss its target of slashing CO2 emissions by a fifth by 2010.
