The drive to increase the amount of energy generated from solar panels in the UK has received the support of more than 150 MPs.
Campaigners behind the We Support Solar initiative have secured the backing of 150 members, 148 of whom have signed an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons introduced by Colin Challen that recommends introducing formal support for photovoltaic technology.
The initiative was launched by the UK PC Manufacturers Group and aims to get a decent feed in tariff for homes supplying the National Grid with electricity from their solar panels.
Robin Webster, senior energy and climate campaigner at Friends of the Earth, said: "Solar PV is an essential ally in the global battle against climate change.
"But here in the UK, the potential of the technology has not even been recognised."
According to National Grid's chief executive Steve Holliday, the government must invest more money in renewable energy generation.
