Energy prices 'too low to combat climate change'

>Energy prices for businesses and consumers are too low to pay for green energy infrastructure, it has been claimed.
According to a new report by the Royal Society, consumers will have to pay more for electricity and gas if the UK is to develop technologies that can be used to tackle climate change.
The scientists behind the report said that the government must divert more cash into researching alternatives to fossil fuels and claimed that existing policy was half-hearted.
John Shepherd, a climate scientist at Southampton University and co-author of the report, said: "We have adapted to an energy price which is unrealistically low if we're going to try and preserve the environment."
"We're spending less than one per cent on probably the biggest problem we've faced in many decades," he concluded.
According to UKNG, the overhaul of Britain's energy infrastructure is long overdue, but the issue of who should pay for the improvements is a contentious one.
