Gas and electricity provider British Gas is opening a new skills centre in Wales which will train people in how to install energy-saving technologies such as solar panels.
Based in Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent in Wales, the centre hopes to train up to 1,300 individuals every year after opening its doors in late 2009.
In particular, the firm aims to help the assembly government deliver energy-saving measures to 40,000 homes as part of the Heads of the Valleys Low Carbon programme.
Phil Bentley, managing director of British Gas, said the skills centre was "unique" and stated that it would have economic, social and environmental benefits.
Earlier this month, energy and climate change minister Ed Miliband unveiled plans to slash dependency on fossil fuels and focus on renewable energy, with the aim of cutting carbon emissions by 80 per cent over the next 40 years.
However, experts have suggested that the £100 billion set to be invested in green energy could hike up people's gas and electricity bills.
