When they hear the word 'Slough' the first thing people think of is not necessarily eco-friendly, however the region is campaigning to be crowned one of the world's greenest cities.
Along with 13 other cities worldwide, including Sydney, Vancouver and Copenhagen, it has signed up to the United Nation's Climate Neutral Network and Slough's local authority has launched 53 energy-saving programmes in a bid to strengthen its cause.
The city has pledged to cut 20 per cent of carbon emissions by 2028.
While making Slough a greener place to live, these schemes could have other benefits for residents, such as lowering their gas and electricity bills.
"Slough is an environmentally-aware council. Being more energy efficient is not only good for Slough and the planet, but it is also great news for our taxpayers as it means we will be able to reduce expenditure on overheads such as utility bills," Roger Parkin, strategic director for improvement and development at Slough Council, stated.
Slough residents, or in fact anyone wanting to embrace some green living, can do their bit to lower carbon emissions by heeding advice from the Carbon Trust, which suggests switching off electrical equipment when not in use and turning down the heating by one degree.
These tips can also save you some cash on gas and electricity bills.
