Switching energy supplier online could be the only way consumers avoid rises in their energy bills as the energy industry plans increasing tariffs to pay for the next generation of nuclear power plants.
According to firms involved in the nuclear power plant plans have warned government that without financial support, the development programme put forward by ministers will not be financially viable.
Failure to create a new fleet of nuclear plants could push up the cost of electricity in the long run, which would impact on consumers.
Ian Parrett, an energy analyst at Inenco, told the Daily Telegraph: "There is no doubt that if we want low carbon energy, there is a substantial price tag attached.
"Whether funded through a government levy or through increased energy charges the consumer will ultimately have to foot the bill," he added.
And with prices rises looking inevitable, searching for the best energy deal on price comparison sites looks like the only way people will be able to save cash.
