Would-be homeowners are not generally put off purchasing a home if they are inefficient, it has been claimed.
According to the Guardian's Green Blog, the reason people are less influenced by the energy-efficiency of a home is because other things are more important – such as the number of bedrooms, location and price.
Despite energy efficient homes being cheaper to heat and light in the long term, many are still not won over by the latest green technology as they can easily save money by switching their energy supplier online.
According to the Daily Mail, switching supplier could save consumers as much as 20 per cent on their electricity and gas bills.
However, the Energy Saving Trust (EST) said decent loft insulation can reduce heating bills by as much as £150 a year, but because it is something that can be easily added to a home it is not deemed essential by buyers.
Recent research conducted on behalf of the EST also showed that 35 per cent of people are willing to spend more on a home which has solar panels on the roof.
