Work has began on a large windfarm in Scotland which is could deliver green energy to over 67,000 homes in the local area.
ScottishPower has announced the work at Arecleoch near Barrhill, South Ayrshire has kicked off and should be completed within two years.
The firm received planning consent for the site in June 2008 and 60 turbines are to be erected at the windfarm before being connected to the local electricity grid using hundreds of kilometers of cables.
Keith Anderson, managing director at ScottishPower Renewables, said the firm has "considerable experience" in delivering large green energy projects.
He added: "We are delighted to have officially started this major project, which will make a significant contribution towards Scotland’s carbon reduction targets."
ScottishPower recently completed a £50 million project to replace 340,000 token pre-payment meters with new key meters across its entire network area.
The firm has become the first energy provider to replace all of their meters.
